I admit I got this set mostly because I would have to pay the same price (or even more) for a tin palette with 24 empty half-pans. But this set came as a pleasant surprise and the paints' performance went way beyond my expectation. I included a photo of swatches made by this set (bottom) vs. an artist watercolor brand (top) for which you pay the same amount to get only one 15ml tube. Honestly I can't not tell much difference and I actually prefer how the paints from this set blend on paper. Yes, the paints do have a strong smell but that doesn't bother me that much. For the price and performance, I gave it 5 stars. And, because I liked it so much that I bought a 36 color set when I saw a price drop. To me, the 36 color set is a big disappointment as they changed the formula! The paints now don't have any smell but it is much more difficult to load and to mix. Either they changed the binder or there is too much binder. That being said, my 24 color set was bought last December. Don't know if the current version uses the old formula or the same as the 36 color set.
I think this is great for a beginner. There is enough space to mix colors and the color guide is perfect. Its affordable which made it good for someone like me who didn't know if I wanted to seriously continue with watercolors.

My 5y/o daughter loves art and she was excited to use this. It's an upgrade from the Crayola ones she's been using. The metal pan is fancy. The colors are nice and vivid. There is a refillable brush, however, it was made to open by turning the opposite way.
Very impressed with these water colors. The colors are vibrant. I like these just as much as my Windsor and Newton watercolors. Would definitely recommend. Will definitely buy again.
