Collection: Shibori Technique - Arashi

The Japanese term for “storm” because it creates a pattern reminiscent of rainfall, also known as the pole-wrapping technique. You will need a piece of fabric (square is easiest, but you can fold sleeves, etc., inward to create a symmetrical shape if you’re using a different shape of fabric), a wooden dowel or piece of PVC pipe and twine.

Step 1

Wrap your fabric on the diagonal around your dowel or pipe.

Step 2

Once the fabric is wrapped, tie the twine to one end with a double knot and wrap tightly around the fabric until you reach the other end..

Step 3

Use both hands to scrunch ends of fabric towards the middle until it’s as tightly compressed as you can get it.
